Gwyneth Rhiannon
When did you first come to Broadus?
I first came to Broadus in Jan, 2007, at the beginning of my 4th semester at UVA.
What made you want to return?
The people at Broadus are the most welcoming I have ever seen at a church. Every Sunday after church, the pastor, Eric, always greets me and asks about my life, and even sends me e-mails inviting me to certain events, or just to see how I am doing. The Sunday school class is very active in the community and has a great support system where everyone prays for each other.
What has been your most memorable experience at Broadus?
The soup and dessert variety show was very memorable. The had a dessert and soup cook-off, followed by a talent show with everything from little kids dancing to The Little Mermaid, to a small group of people singing good old baptist hymns like “I’ll fly away.” There was also a church version of “Deal or No Deal,” where several of the men dressed up as the “beauties.” It was a great experience of fellowship.
What you’d recommend for UVA students new to Broadus.
Don’t be afraid to get involved in a ministry or a Sunday school class, even if you don’t think you have time. It’s worth it.
